Partners & Collaboration
Building Alberta’s battery-storage future together
At Rockies Power Reserve, every megawatt-hour we store and deliver is made possible by strong, win-win partnerships across the entire energy chain.
We work hand-in-hand with Alberta wind-farm owners to co-locate or contract battery storage that captures curtailed energy, smooths output, and unlocks higher revenue through peak pricing and AESO ancillary services. Large industrial and commercial energy consumers partner with us for fixed-price, 100 % renewable power purchase agreements that lock in carbon-free electricity at stable rates while helping them meet aggressive net-zero targets.
Landowners host our projects on industrial or marginal-agricultural sites, receiving decades of secure, above-market lease payments while keeping full ownership and future land flexibility. Local contractors and small businesses in Alberta get priority for construction, maintenance, and supply work, keeping millions circulating in the province.
Investors and lending institutions benefit from a de-risked, cash-flow-backed model: revenue from the flagship Grizzly BESS funds the simultaneous build-out of Big Horn and Grey Wolf, delivering strong, predictable returns supported by Alberta’s robust power market and long-term contracts. Government grants and incentive programs are layered in to further strengthen economics and speed deployment.
We also collaborate closely with AESO, the AUC, municipalities, and Indigenous communities to ensure every project exceeds regulatory standards and delivers real benefits to the regions we serve.
By aligning wind farms, large consumers, landowners, local businesses, investors, lenders, and regulators, we’re proving that grid-scale battery storage can be profitable, welcomed, and proudly Alberta-made. If you’re part of Alberta’s energy future, we’d love to partner with you. Reach out — let’s power the province together.
Wind Farms
We partner with Alberta wind farms through long-term power purchase contracts that allow us to charge our batteries using low-cost or curtailed wind energy, while providing the wind farm with a stable, predictable revenue stream regardless of real-time market prices. In exchange, we return firm, dispatchable clean power to the grid during peak-demand periods, dramatically increasing the wind farm’s effective capacity value and overall project returns.
Large Consumers
We partner with large Alberta industrial and commercial consumers through fixed-price, 100 % renewable power purchase agreements that deliver clean, carbon-free electricity at stable, predictable rates for 10–20 years. By contracting directly with Rockies Power Reserve, these off-takers lock in cost certainty, meet aggressive net-zero targets, and support local Alberta renewable projects without the complexity of owning generation assets themselves.
Land Owners
We partner with Alberta landowners through long-term, inflation-indexed land-lease agreements that provide decades of stable, above-market income with minimal disturbance to existing farming, grazing, or industrial operations. Landowners retain full ownership and control of their property, enjoy annual payments that typically far exceed traditional agricultural returns, and preserve the option to return the land to its original use after the project lifecycle.
Local Businesses
We partner with local Alberta businesses and contractors by giving them preferred access to construction, electrical, civil, maintenance, and supply contracts for every Rockies Power project. These partnerships keep tens of millions of dollars circulating in rural communities, create high-quality local jobs, and ensure our projects are built and serviced by the same Alberta companies and workers who call the region home.
Investors
We partner with seed and venture investors who share our vision of turning Alberta’s abundant wind resource into reliable, profitable clean energy. Investors gain exposure to a de-risked, revenue-backed growth story: early capital funds the flagship Grizzly BESS, whose cash flow then unlocks simultaneous construction of Big Horn and Grey Wolf, delivering strong returns through Alberta’s high-value power market, AESO ancillary contracts, and long-term offtake agreements by 2030.
Regulators
We partner with AESO, the Alberta Utilities Commission, municipalities, and Indigenous communities through early, transparent, and collaborative engagement to ensure every Rockies Power project fully complies with (and often exceeds) provincial regulations. By delivering fast-response frequency regulation, operating reserves, and peak capacity with zero emissions, our BESS facilities actively support Alberta’s grid reliability goals and net-zero 2050 targets while respecting local land-use priorities and Indigenous rights.
Governments
We partner with federal and provincial government programs by actively pursuing non-dilutive capital through grants, contribution agreements, tax credits, and low-cost financing initiatives such as Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), Clean Resource Innovation Network (CRIN), Canada Infrastructure Bank loans, the Investment Tax Credit for Clean Technology, and the Clean Electricity ITC. These public funds reduce project risk, lower the cost of capital for investors, and accelerate deployment timelines, enabling Rockies Power to deliver more megawatts of Alberta-made clean storage faster while advancing provincial and federal goals for emissions reduction, grid modernization, and rural economic development.
Lenders
We partner with banks, credit unions, and institutional lenders by offering senior-secured debt positions backed by predictable, long-term cash flows from AESO ancillary contracts, peak-power arbitrage, and corporate offtake agreements. These credit facilities benefit from strong collateral (the batteries themselves), conservative leverage ratios, and revenue that begins the moment each project reaches COD, giving lenders low-risk exposure to Alberta’s growing clean-energy storage sector while supporting the province’s transition to reliable renewables.
Alberta Communities
We partner with Alberta communities by prioritizing local hiring, contracting, and spending, while designing every project to be quiet, low-impact, and fully compatible with surrounding agricultural, industrial, or recreational land uses. Through open houses, community benefit agreements, and ongoing dialogue, we ensure residents see direct economic upside (jobs, tax revenue, and support for local services) and take pride in hosting clean, Alberta-owned infrastructure that helps keep the lights on and the air clean for generations to come.
